When I retired from the practice of law in 2019 after 30 years, I decided that I wanted to volunteer in immigration law. I quickly learned of the valuable and life changing services provided by our White's Chapel Refugee Initiative, which seems to impact the volunteer as much as - or more than - the recipient. Whether purchasing mittens for a family arriving to North Texas during a cold snap or assisting a refugee navigate through various legal forms or seeing the relief on a mom's face when she was granted asylee status and would be reunited with her husband and children, I find joy and see that RI is extremely rewarding and humbling.
