I took early retirement so I could spend more time serving my neighbors, both locally and globally. Serving with the Refugee Initiative is close to home for me. We have an adopted daughter from one of the countries whose refugees are being served by the Initiative. We know firsthand how hard it is for someone from another culture, who speaks a different language, to make a new life in the US.
I get fulfillment knowing we are helping families who left their home with little to nothing. We have delivered furniture to families where the only thing in their entire apartment prior to our arrival was a single mattress on the floor. Though language is often a barrier, we see the gratefulness on the faces of families when we show up and set up their entire apartment.
A big thank you to everyone who is involved in the Initiative, especially to those of you who have donated items. Without you, we would not be able to help “make a home” for those starting their new life as our neighbor.
